Historical Background of Dodol

Dodol is a durian toffee which is popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, South India, Sri Lanka, and Burma.  Dodol is also called as "lempok" or "lempuk."  Dodol in Sarawak is different from dodol in West Malaysia where glutinous rice flour is added to the dodol.  In Sarawak, it is 100% durian pulp with or without sugar.

It needs a lot of time and hard work to keep on stirring durian flesh to prevent it from burnt. Dodol is very sweet and firm to touch.  It is commonly served during festivals such as Hari Rayi Aidilfitri.  Besides that, in Malaysia, it is quite popular among the historically Javanese-influenced eastern states, such as Kelantan and Terengganu.

Value Propositions of the Shop

What makes the Dodol Durian Sarawak attractive is it is rarely can be found at general store, grocery stores or retail store in Kuching.  Besides, the Dodol Durian Sarawak is different than other dodol that can be found in Peninsular Malaysia.  This is because, it is made from the special ingredient which is called "gula apong" which is originated from Sarawak.

On the other hand, the taste of Dodol Durian Sarawak is absolutely different and traditionally fantastic.  This dodol has became one of the favourite foods among the tourists when they visit Kuching, Sarawak.  Mr. Azmi got approximately RM2000 from the selling of Dodol Durian Sarawak within a week.  Furthermore, it is located at a strategic place where the road is connected to the center of the city.  Plus, during the weekend, it is the best time for Mr. Azmi to increase his sale.
